The State of Michigan, local units of government and the private sector have teamed up to launch the second annual Code Michigan event, to be held October 3-5 in Detroit, Marquette and Newaygo. Spend three days with an army of civic-minded developers and designers creating amazing apps for Michigan. Detroit, Marquette and Newaygo will each award first, second and third place cash prizes. First place is $5,000; second is $1,500; and third place is $500. The first place winners from each location will then go on to compete for the cash grand prize of $10,000 and a 30 minute meeting to pitch their winning idea to Renaissance Venture Capital Fund. The event will also feature challenges. Challenges are a contest within a contest—an opportunity to pad your victory with extra cash and prizes. Challenges are known problems looking for a solution. Deciding the challenge winner is up to the whims of the challenge owner. Show off your solution and the challenge owner may grant you bonus cash and prizes…or give you the cold shoulder.
